About Lesley
Lesley Shaffner is an artist residing and working in the Houston, TX area. She has a strong inclination towards working with her hands and primarily creates sculptural art using wire and fiber materials. Her practice spans three-dimensional wall sculptures, freestanding pedestal works, and two-dimensional wall pieces, engaging form and space across multiple dimensions. Nature serves as the foundational inspiration for her artwork, and she is deeply interested in the connections between humans and the world around them. Her love for pencil drawings in her youth, coupled with the desire to transform them into something tangible, led her to explore the realm of wire art years ago. As a self-taught wire artist, Lesley’s spirituality, surroundings, travels, and curiosities significantly influence her projects. Her work brings together recycled materials and organic forms, echoing the fluid rhythms and curvature of the natural world. It also delves into the quiet intensity of spiritual revelations encountered in meditation, alongside contemplations of midlife and the profound transformations that accompany it.
